Ideas You Should Use

November 26th, 2009

Many times we come up with ideas that we just dont have time to pursue. This doesnt mean that they’re stupid, and we would absolutely like to see them acted upon, so were going to just put them out here and hope for comments and feedback (and people to make them into great companies so we can one day use the service). Ideas are below. See the contact page if you want to voice your opinion.

dontgetthebook.com – 11/1/2009

If I could have $50 for every damn time I bought a book for a college course and it did nothing but collect dust the whole semester, I would probably have a good $500 to go spend on books about helping me do cool things – like work on our business. On a side note, if anyone wants to purchase and donate to us Crush It, Upstarts, Good to Great, or 4 Steps to the Epiphany, we will trade for advertising on our website. Anyway, this website idea will basically just be a list of courses people have taken – identified by school, course, teacher, and book – in which the book was used either not at all or minimally (ex. just for hw problems that you can get from a friend). Free to use and ad revenue monetized. Exclusive ads based on IP address or school selection for local bookstores.

UPDATE 11/3/2009: I ran across somebody on Hacker News already doing this. It looks like its very new and that the person needs some help. I will be giving him some hours once he adds NCSU. http://www.shouldigetthebook.com/

City Stream – 11/26/2009

City Stream is a website that aggregates webcams at various nightlife places around an area.  Each nightlife place would need their own webcam that can take pictures at a regular interval, or will stream full audio and video back to City Stream.  Users can create an account and “follow” certain places, much like twitter, such that they’ll be able to see what is going on at their favorite places at any point during the week.  Whether you’re looking for a quiet coffee shop or a hoppin club scene, City Stream can give you an instantaneous view of all of the places on your list.  Businesses wanting to be listed on City Stream will need to opt-in to having the hardware installed on their property.
