Good point, and well said. One practical outworking of the time constraints is that I have to guard myself from being sucked in when one of my roommates is watching some interesting TV show. I've noticed it isn't as difficult as it used to be.

DUDE ... unless you want to make "design" your profession ... dont waste your time with trying to get good at photoshop.

invest in a designer ... via crowdspring.com or other like sites, where you present your idea and vision, and people submit their concepts with you ... and you communicate back to the community while they build iteration after iteration of design concepts, making it SOOO much better than you can do yourself. All for a flat fee price, which you award to the "winner" of the contest. Much better than spending 50 hours on it yourself.

I agree on getting an office. Even try a shared office space. That is what we use.

BTW: I found you looking for people who read Techmeme. I have a product we think is better and wanted some feedback from real customers. The whole Eric Reis/Steve Blank Customer Development Model. Let me know if you are willing to talk. Thanks.

I see you've figured out the secret to productivity. My last year and a half in college I would never EVER do work at my apartment....EVER!! It is a pointless waste of time. I would always get my ass up at 5am and get to campus by 6am. I highly recommend this because when you are alone (and I mean alone at that hour) on campus surrounded by an environment meant for learning, you will be amazed at how much you can get done. My 12 hour days on campus were some of the best days of my life.

There are many things you can be doing to get a better understanding of your prospects problems and operating reality. If you had the product today you would still need presentations and messaging of different lengths, qualifying questions, strategies for reaching prospects, etc...

You can normally develop an MVP that runs on that most reliable of demo platforms: PowerPoint. Use that to determine interest, feature content, prospect's perception of value. If you can't fit a useful pitch and/or set of questions on a single piece of paper and buy ten prospects a cup of coffee or a meal to discuss it, you probably aren't thinking hard enough.

Customer development proceeds in parallel with product development and informs it.
